Although research was done in only a matter of days, it took hours to read the books and write notes because the books themselves were so big. Searching the web was a difficult task and required effort because I could not type in Chinese and in English, there are not so many sources to explore. My option was to go to the local library, the Hong Kong Library, which proved to be a huge success. On October 28, my supervisor meeting was held. We discussed goal setting and looking into the website (which is subsequently this one). I was fairly satisfied with my work. I held of the research for a big.
I learned that in China, maybe a generation ago, people stilled learned and practiced calligraphy as a course at school. In the coming years, it slowly diminished only to regain popularity in these days. To get a sense of where and why people choose to learn calligraphy now, I asked the people around me. My saxophone teacher. My grandpa. My piano teacher. Several people on the streets. I may not get a clear explanation nor are the explanations completely reliable. But they were definitely insightful. One said that it was because her mother had written her a beautiful piece of calligraphy for her wedding, and she wanted to do so for her daughter in the future. Another said that it was for peace of mind and heart. My grandpa said now that he has more free time being retired, he chooses to practice calligraphy to pass time. The answers were amusing and I got to know and connect to the people asked better. They shared stories and it all kind of linked. An amazing link I would not expect at all. It all had to do with family. And peace.
